[ Off they go!

A tanuki comes out from the side and tumbles into their path. Despite her words, Chiyo pulls Li-Na to the side, running to evade instead of fight. ]

[Li-Na isn't going to point out the change in plan, because as long as they keep moving... that's what matters. The sooner they get home, the better for Chiyo's sake.]

Keep going!

[admiringly]

[ Keep on keeping on is Chiyo's aim. It's a lot of avoidance. The fastest way between two points is a straight line, but that's not the safest way is the thought process.

One particular raccoon is being particularly persistent, and it jumps right in front of Chiyo. She screams and then swings her bag at it. It barely moves. ]

Li-Na, kick it!

[invocate]

[Chiyo doesn't have to ask twice

Li-Na steps in front of her friend, hauls back her leg, and kicks the tanuki as hard as she can]

Go away!

[admiringly]

[ The tanuki goes flying, well enough away that it gives Chiyo time to get less scared. ]

Yay! You're amazing! Okay, let's go! No more stops before home!

[ She takes off sprinting, making sure to keep her hold on Li-Na's hand. ]

[invocate]

[Bye tanuki. And don't come back.

Li-Na keeps pace with Chiyo, maintaining a sharp lookout for more of those creepy animals]

We are almost there!

[admiringly]

It's the home stretch!

[ More come out to get in their way, but at this point, her adrenaline is surging, so when she moves to whack a raccoon away, she manages it this time.

Chiyo fishes her house key out and smoothly unlocks the door when they arrive home. ]

Quick, quick! Get inside!

[invocate]

[Li-Na kicks one last tanuki away from them, then hurries into the house.]

Haaaaaahhhhh. That was scary.

[admiringly]

[ Chiyo slams the door behind them and collapses to her knees in the entryway. ]

Y-yeah, it really was. I'm glad we got out of that without too much trouble.

[ For tonight, they're safe. Chiyo has no such certainty about tomorrow. ]

[invocate]

[Li-Na likewise sinks to the floor, a hand pressed to her chest as if that will slow down her racing heartbeat]

They looked kind of cute at first, but in the end they were really creepy.
